How do I know if I may be pregnant?

A woman can become pregnant any time she has sexual intercourse or is in a situation where sperm could have entered her vagina. If you have been in a situation like this, a pregnancy test could give you more information about whether or not you are pregnant.

What are the symptoms of pregnancy?

Some common symptoms of pregnancy are:
o A late period o Tender or swollen breasts
o Increased sense of smell
o Frequent urination
o Nausea or vomiting
o Unexplained fatigue
o Lightheadedness
o Backaches or cramping
o Food cravings
o Darkening of the nipples

If you have more than one of these symptoms OR have recently missed your period, you may be pregnant.

Will you tell anyone about my visit to your center?

No. All our services are confidential, which means we won't tell anyone (parents, friends, etc.) that you visited us and won't contact you without your permission. We are here to help you!

Are there any risks in taking the Morning After Pill
(sometimes called "emergency contraception" or "Plan B")?

Yes. Some of the possible side effects of this drug are cramping and abdominal pain, fatigue, irregular and unpredictable menstrual periods, headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and breast tenderness. The Morning After Pill works in a few different ways - it can inhibits ovulation and prevents sperm from reaching the egg, it works to prevent implantation or if implantation has already occured, it can cause an abortion. Come see us to find out more about the Morning After Pill and more EC options.

What if I am pregnant? Does Choices have resources to help me make decisions about my pregnancy options and figure out what to do next?

If you think you may be pregnant or need to confirm a pregnancy, send us a message or call us at 423-892-0803 to make an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome. We can provide you with high quality pregnancy testing, ultrasound, medical consultation with a nurse, information on all your options, resources and referrals. If pregnancy is not a part of your plans, Choices is here for you with free and confidential services. Before you begin worrying about the decision you may have to make, you need to make sure you really are pregnant. A late period is the most common sign, but it doesn't necessarily mean you are pregnant. You may have also taken a home test, but remember, only an ultrasound exam can 100% confirm a pregnancy. We offer high quality pregnancy tests, a medical consultation with a nurse and a free ultrasound for any client who meets the medical criteria.

Can anyone make me have an abortion?

No, It is against the law for anyone to force you to have an abortion. Not even a husband or parent can require you to undergo an abortion against your will, even if you are a minor. Our center exists to help you in any circumstance. We can also help you in discussing your possible pregnancy with those closest to you if that is what you desire. No information is ever shared without your written and verbal consent.

Does abortion have any physical risks?

Yes, abortion has possible risks to your body. Come see us to learn about the risks and side effects.

Can abortion affect me emotionally?

Immediately following an abortion, women experience feelings from relief to regret.  However, over time, most women can struggle with more intense emotions such as guilt, anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide. If you have had an abortion and are experiencing these or other serious symptons, please give us a call today.  If you are considering an abortion, we're here for you with options and more information.

I have already had an abortion. Does Choices offer any services for me?

Yes. We have after abortion counseling and support groups available for you free of charge. Our caring staff and volunteers are here for you. Our ARISE program exists to help women, men and anyone who may be hurting due to reproductive loss or an abortion decision.
